Deadline reports that Game of Thrones season 4 finale scored 7.1 Million viewers on its first airing on HBO, up 32% from Season 3’s finale. After its second airing the show had pulled in a total of 9.3 Million viewers. As a whole, over its continuous airings, season 4 of Game of Thrones has averaged 18.6 Million viewers, besting The Sopranos record of 18.2 Million from its 2002 season. HBO has already renewed Game of Thrones for 2 more seasons.
Game of Thrones is based on the Song of Ice and Fire books by GRR Martin, and follows the stories of various denizens of Westeros’ Seven Kingdoms as magical forces begin to rear their heads. The season 4 finale of Game of Thrones saw major shifts in the stories of Arya Stark, Bran Stark, and Tyrion Lannister among others.
