Fire up your Tardis, grab your sonic screwdriver, and level both of your heartbeats, Doctor Who is coming back. BBC America just announced that they will be bringing the new season of Doctor Who stateside on August 23rd at 8pm. The last season ended with the impossible 11th (or is it 12th) regeneration of the Doctor thanks to a deus ex machina gift from the Time Lords. The new doctor will be played by Peter Capaldi (The Thick of It, Skins) who will be joined by the previous doctors most recent companion, the impossible girl, Clara Oswald (as portrayed by Jenna Coleman). Fans in New York can expect to see Capaldi and Coleman in their neck of the woods for a premiere screening event on August 14th as part of the Doctor Who world tour.
Doctor Who is, of course, the phenomenally successful and definitively British Science Fiction series that has been on the air since 1963. Doctor Who follows the various iterations of the Doctor, an ancient last survivor of the Time Lord race who flies through space and time in a purple police box that is larger (much) on the inside.
