Dorne was introduced this season on Game of Thrones through the charismatic character of Prince Oberyn “the Red Viper” Martell. Next season of game of thrones will take us to Dorne itself in order to meet his brother, his nephew (who is engaged to Myrcella Baratheon), and his bastard daughters the “sand snakes.”
It was previously confirmed that Spain would act as a setting for Dorne on the show which films in varied locales across the globe already. Now, however, we have our first official location. The Water Gardens of Dorne scenes will be filmed at The Alcázar of Seville in Seville, Spain.
In the mythology of Game of Thrones, the Water Gardens of Dorne were a gift from Prince Maron Martell to his bride Daenerys Targaryen (no, not that one, an ancestor of hers) in celebration of Dorne (who never surrendered to the invading Targaryens) joining the Seven Kingdoms through marriage. Fans of the show might remember Oberyn telling Cersei that he last saw her daughter swimming in the Water Gardens of Dorne with his daughters.
