Rob Thomas, creator of Veronica Mars and Party Down, showed the first footage of his new CW series iZombie at Comic Con. The series, based on the comic book by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, follows Liv Moore (get it?) a former medical student who now works at a coroners office after a wild party ends with her becoming a zombie. Liv, played by Rose McIver (Masters of Sex, Power Rangers RPM) gets her new job as a means of obtaining the human brains she now must eat. Eating brains gives Liv access to the minds of the deceased, which allows her to help in police investigations, and pick up unique and varied skill sets. Thomas stated that Liv would pick up both physical and mental traits from the brains she devours. “If she ate the brain of a concert pianist, she’s going to be able to do that.” Said Thomas to IGN, “She also picks up some negative traits. She becomes a kleptomaniac in the pilot.”
Though comparisons to Veronica Mars are inevitable (and well found), Showrunner Rob Thomas thinks it skews closer to Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, which Veronica Mars was often compared to as well. The structure of the series, is similar to both Veronica Mars and Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, in that most episodes will have a mystery of the week as well as elements of a larger arc.
iZombie premieres in 2015. Stay tuned for more coverage of Comic Con 2014.
