Carlton Cuse is really milking the success he had with Lost, and who can blame him, especially when he puts out good content. Cuse’s first post-Lost outing was Bates Motel, a Psycho prequel of sorts. While many Showrunners would be delighted to have a steady job like that, it wasn’t enough for Cuse who then launched The Strain, based on the books by Film Director Guillermo Del Toro. The Strain is a cable hit, and a fanboys dream come true, but that isn’t enough for Carlton Cuse. Next up for the prolific Showrunner, The Returned, an adaptation of a french series about a small town where the dead are mysteriously returning. That is 3 current shows! Is Cuse going to stop? NO! Seemingly with the goal of putting all other TV Showrunners out of business, Carlton Cuse has a Civil War pilot at Amazon called Point of Honor. Well yesterday Cuse did it again, this time a scifi project for USA network that is currently going by the name Colony.
Colony takes place in the near future, a future in which the Earth is being occupied by an alien race. Colony can be seen as a parallel to both America’s roots as a group of colonies occupied by Britain, or recent occupations held by America in which we conquered and ruled over Iraq and Afghanistan. To me it sounds like what Cuse is doing to television, sitting atop the industry, putting his name on everything.
Colony was co-created by Ryan Condal (Hercules, The Sixth Gun), a man previously conquered by the insidious Mr. Cuse.
Currently you can watch Mr. Cuse’s series The Strain on FX every Sunday.
