Fox is developing a series based on the book Nod, about a sudden global change that removes the need for sleep from many humans. Nod follows Tanya, an “Awakened” who no longer needs sleep, and her beau Paul who still needs sleep.
FX has given a name and premise to their previously untitled Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover) project. Baskets, follows a corporate man who quits his job to become a Clown. Baskets was co-created by Louis CK (Louie) through his production company Pig Newton.
20th Century Fox is developing DeTour, a new semi-autobiographical pilot from Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo and Showrunner Steve Franks (Psych). DeTour will tell a story similar to that of Cuomo’s, who left his music career behind to finish his Harvard education. Fox has order a put pilot for the series (a put pilot is a pilot that will incur financial penalties for the network if they do not air it, it is used as a vote of confidence second only to a blind series order).
New Amazon Instant Video series Transparent has been scheduled for a September 26th release (all 10 episodes release at once). The series originally premiered with a pilot during Amazon’s last pilot season. Transparent stars Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development) as the Husband and Father who comes out to his family as a transgender female. The comedy series explores the many and varied secrets of the family members that begin to come out.
Riley Voelkel (American Horror Story: Coven) and Patrick Heusinger (Revolution) are the first to join the cast of Amazon Instant’s new Civil War drama series Point of Honor. Point of Honor was created by Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Randall Wallace (Braveheart).
