Fox announced today that the network had picked up the pilot for Lucifer based on Neil Gaiman’s Sandman comics published by DC Comics imprint Vertigo the Hollywood Reporter confirms. The series is being helmed by Californication creator Tom Kapinos and centers on Lucifer who has grown bored of his dominion over Hell and abandons it in favor of Los Angeles where he takes pleasure in helping the LAPD punish criminals.
Jerry Bruckheimer and Sleepy Hollow EP Len Wiseman are also attached as producers. DC Comics version of Lucifer was modeled after David Bowie and made his debut in Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen No. 65 in 1962. Neil Gaiman revived the character for his Sandman series. Lucifer’s pickup brings the number of drama pilot pickups to six for Fox this year and it is the second DC comics property to receive a pilot pickup this season as Supergirl was picked up by CBS.
