HBO has announced that it’s new cable free streaming service HBO Now will launch in April The Verge reports and it was revealed yesterday that the premium cable network giant has struck a deal with Apple where the service will be exclusively available to Apple TV and other Apple devices for three months. HBO is pricing the service at $14.99 a month a bit steeper than what Netflix and Hulu charge but right in line with what Cable companies charge for the channel.
HBO Now will offer it’s entire library of original programming for streaming along with a large catalog of films and it’s also been announced that customers who sign up for the service with an Apple device in April will get a free month. This move has been viewed as controversial as the exclusivity deal leaves owners of non Apple products in the cold and runs counter to the usual strategy employed by competitors of getting your service on every device imaginable. Though non Apple owners will still be able to access HBO Now through their web browsers.
