Fox has officially given an order for a six episode run of a new X-Files limited series Variety reports. Former series stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny will return to their iconic roles of FBI agents Scully and Mulder respectively as they once again delve into the X-Files. Series creator Chris Carter is also on board as showrunner.
Carter in a statement to the press had this to say, “I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” Carter said. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.” The news of an X-Files revival follows the success of another Fox revival 24: Live Another Day which saw good ratings for the network last spring. NBC is also jumping on the revival bandwagon with Heroes Reborn which is set to premiere this upcoming season. Production on the new episodes will begin this summer, no premiere date is yet set.
