Deadline is reporting that the Syfy channel has picked up Channel Zero a new horror anthology series from Chronicle scribe Max Landis and Nick Antosca. Like American Horror Story Channel Zero will focus on a single self contained story per season. The first season will be based on a short story by Kris Straub called Candle Cove which was inspired by an internet style of urban legends called creepypasta. Candle Cove revolves around a children’s television show from the 80’s and it’s role in a series of murders and one man’s dark secret.
The Syfy channel has lately been increasing it’s slate of genre content that it had made it’s name for in the 90’s after briefly shying away from such content in the mistaken belief that it was not marketable for the network. Channel Zero joins Dark Matter and Killjoys in the network’s new push to re-establish itself as a leader in genre television. No word on when Channel Zero will debut.
