No news was announced at the Game of Thrones panel at this year’s Comic Con convention. The Seth Myers moderated panel hosted a bevy of the show’s stars including Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner, John Bradley, Alfie Allen, Conleth Hill, Gwendoline Christie, Liam Cunningham, Natalie Dormer, Hannah Murray and Carice van Houten. Along with director David Nutter and executive producer Carolyn Strauss. Notably absent from this year’s panel are show-runners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff as well as series creator George R.R. Martin. Discussion on the panel mainly focused on season 5 which had just aired on HBO with Seth asking the stars and creators about the major events that had occurred.
During the panel two points stood out. First was John Snow really dead? Director David Nutter related that none other than President Obama had inquired about the Lord Commander’s fate and alas Nutter said he confirmed to the President that John Snow is indeed “deader than dead”. another topic was the controversial rape scene involving Sansa Stark and Ramsey Bolton. When asked about the scene Sophie Turner replied “If there’s one thing that Sansa still is despite what’s happened to her, it’s strong,” She continued “She could’ve fought back if she wanted to, but she didn’t. She does her scheming in her mind.”
Outside of that everyone was mum on the future and refused to give any details on season 6. Not even a premier date was announced when usually the premier date for Game of Thrones is announced at Comic Con. The cast confirmed they were under a tighter veil of secrecy than before because of the show catching up to the books. While there was no news HBO did show two new videos at the panel. One being an audition reel featuring the auditions of many of the series stars and the other video was a collection of the many references to the show in pop culture. You can see the videos below.
