Kurt Russell (The Hateful 8) and his real life step daughter Kate Hudson (Almost Famous) have joined the cast of a new series from Mel Gibson (Braveheart). The Barbary Coast, based on the book by Herbert Asbury (Gangs of New York) tells the story of the city of San Francisco, which met a rapid boom in the gold rush of 1849. “Most people don’t know the scandalous history behind San Francisco, said Mark Gordon, whose production company is producing the series, “The Barbary Coast offers a rich portrayal of a period when success was often attained through illicit and brutal means.”
Gibson will be writing, directing, and appearing in a recurring role on the series. He will also be producing, alongside Russell and Hudson. Kurt Russell will soon be appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in the yet unnamed role of Peter Quill’s (Parks and Recreation‘s Chris Pratt) father. Kate Hudson will soon appear in the upcoming movie Mother’s Day. Mel Gibson last appeared in Expendables 3.
