After being a highlight of Daredevil‘s second season, it has now been officially confirmed that The Punisher will have his own Netflix series. Daredevil‘s first 2 seasons, as well as Jessica Jones, the upcoming Luke Cage, and the currently in production Iron Fist are all part of a larger plan by Marvel and Netflix to do for TV what they did for film with The Avengers. The Defenders, a super hero team up featuring Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist is said to go into production at the end of this year. For Daredevil‘s second season, the character of the Punisher was introduced. This iteration of the Punisher, as portrayed by The Walking Dead‘s Jon Bernthal, was an immediate hit with fans and critics alike. Rumors of a Punisher series had been circulating before Daredevil‘s second season had even dropped. Some rumors even suggested that the character could replace Iron Fist in The Defenders plan. Rather, The Punisher will sit alongside Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders as the 6th series partnership between Netflix and Marvel. The Punisher will be run by Hannibal alumni Steve Lightfoot.
